Research and science together help young people grow up

In recent years, "composite" research courses are becoming popular. The content of the curriculum is based on daily life, and the role of the teacher in the classroom changes from a simple knowledge giver to a problem leader, inspiring the child to discover the problem, analyze the problem and finally draw a conclusion. This kind of curriculum not only provides knowledge, but also focuses on cultivating children's research thinking.

In addition to this kind of curriculum to cultivate children's research thinking has attracted the attention of parents, letting children participate in summer study has also become a new choice for parents.

From learning scientific knowledge, and then develop children's logical thinking

Study, let children out of the classroom, explore nature, contact society, through practical experience to achieve the unity of knowledge and action. This form of education has been widely recognized by education departments, schools and families. In recent years, every small holiday, golden Week, winter and summer vacation, "research fever" will sweep the country. A variety of research projects attract the attention of parents and students, and more and more children participate in research activities.

This summer, Ms. Liu signed up for her daughter's summer study camp, a week-long product that combines online classes with offline practice. "I feel the summer camp is good for building children's underlying logic and analytical skills, which will benefit them for life," Liu said.

On the second floor of the China Soong Ching Ling Youth Science and Technology Culture Exchange Center, there is an innovative education space and interdisciplinary comprehensive practice base with the theme of "Creation and play" for children and teenagers aged 5-18. According to the relevant person in charge of the base, as a research base, they are different from the traditional receptive learning mode of "teachers speak and students listen", gradually deepening from the three levels of experience, exploration and challenge, and opening the door of scientific exploration for teenagers through experiential education.

The Opinions on Promoting research Trips for primary and secondary school students, issued by 11 departments including the Ministry of Education, also pointed out that "conducting research trips is conducive to promoting the comprehensive implementation of quality education and promoting the deep integration of book knowledge and life experience." "Each base should take study Tours as an important educational vehicle, and develop various types of activity courses according to the goals of study Tours for different students in elementary, middle and high schools."

More measures to create a "walking classroom"

How to combine science education with research has become a hot topic. Accordingly, relevant policies and measures have been introduced in various parts of China.

On November 19, 2022, Meng Qinghai, full-time vice chairman and Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, was awarded the "Science Popularization Research Pilot City" in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province (7.990, 0.01, 0.13%), and Zhangjiajie became the only city in China with this title. Recently, Zhangjiajie City Science and Technology Association, Zhangjiajie City Education Bureau, Zhangjiajie City Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau jointly issued the "Zhangjiajie City 2023 science research travel work Plan", fully opened the city's primary and secondary schools "science research trip", so that science research becomes a "walking classroom".

It is understood that Zhangjiajie City launched seven science research routes for the first phase of youth science education, including "visiting history and humanities, exploring field classrooms", "exploring the secret of two bombs and one star, establishing the ambition of a powerful country in science and technology" and so on. These seven routes allow young people to receive scientific knowledge, exercise hands-on and inquiry skills, and stimulate the spirit of innovation and scientific interest in the process of experiential and immersive outdoor practice.

In March 2023, the Education Bureau of Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, organized and compiled the first batch of science education research centers for primary and secondary schools in Dongguan City. The manual themes include "science + education research", "science + intelligent manufacturing", "science + ecological agriculture and forestry", "science + intangible cultural heritage", and "science + traditional industry". 35 public welfare science education research centers in Dongguan City are selected. It covers a variety of scientific fields. The 35 public welfare science education research sites selected have high-quality science education resources, and have the ability to undertake primary and secondary school students to travel and carry out science education, providing a rich variety of science education research options for primary and secondary school students in the city.

In the "double reduction" of education, the addition of science education needs the "two-way flow" of science education and school, and how to make good use of large social classrooms has become the key. In May 2023, 18 departments including the Ministry of Education jointly issued the Opinions on Strengthening Science Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in the New Era, pointing out that relevant units should be fully mobilized to serve scientific practice education. Strengthen departmental collaboration, coordinate and mobilize universities, scientific research institutes, science and technology museums, youth palaces, children's activity centers, museums, cultural centers, libraries, planning exhibition halls, industrial and agricultural enterprises and other units, open their venues, bases, camps, parks, production lines and other positions, platforms, carriers and resources to students, and provide a material basis for the extensive implementation of scientific practice education.

Hong Changchun, president of Qing Daya Yade Institute of Education and Technology, pointed out that "the combination of research and science education can jointly promote the growth of young people, so that research becomes concrete and sustainable because of the content of science education, and science education is enriched and improved because of the carrier of research."
